History of the Kensington Car Show

The history of the Kensington Car Show began because of Mario Bruno’s love and passion for his community, friends, family, and cars. His commitment and dedication to support the Town of Kensington goes without say. The car show demonstrates his generosity by giving back to the community and promoting exposure to this amazing town.  The show originated in November 2014 as a trial run at the Kensington Town Hall. Due to the overwhelming turn out and support, the event expanded to Howard Avenue to accommodate the demand.

As the Kensington Car Show grew in popularity, Mario’s team chose charities that proceeds from the car show could be put to good use to support the local community.

For the car show years of 2015, 2017 & 2018 the selected charity was The Noyes Children Library Foundation. The mission of the Noyes Library was to inspire in young children the love of reading by providing a welcoming, warm, small-scale environment that encourages concentration and wonder; to serve as a resource for children’s services in other libraries; and to be a model for early learning and early literacy through books. The Foundation has launched the Make MORE Noyes Campaign to design and fund a much-needed major renovation and expansion project. The renovation will make Noyes not just ADA compliant, but a model of universal accessibility, while more than doubling the finished floor space within the historic building.

For 2016, the Kensington Car Show proceeds supported the Yellow Ribbon Fund, Inc., enhancing the lives of military families facing medical crisis. Yellow Ribbon Fund was one of the first veteran service organizations to recognize the importance of keeping the family together during the critical recuperation phase. Through the creation of key programs: Crossroads and Keystone, they are able to make an impact on veterans and their families.

After a few years of postponement due to COVID, we are ecstatic to be able to share this event again with the Town of Kensington and our avid followers!

For 2023 the Kensington Car Show has selected to support the Pancreatic Cancer Fund through Johns Hopkins in the name of Scott Stone. Scott has served many years as a Montgomery County firefighter who is now battling this disease. He is a wonderful husband, friend, and father. His love of classic cars, service to his community and showing up for people without hesitation can’t be understated.

For 2024 the Kensington Car Show has selected the Jubilee Association of Maryland. Jubilee’s support helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Montgomery County, Maryland live their best lives! Since our founding in 1978, Jubilee fosters inclusive and fulfilling lives for the people we support. With more than four decades of experience, today more than 180 adults count on Jubilee for residential and housing support services that promote independence, secure housing, and connect friends.

The growth of the Kensington Car Show over the years and encouragement of supporters has made this show a great event for families and car enthusiasts.
